We were very pleased to be invited along to to the Newton Court Cider Open Day on Saturday. The weather was damp and dreary to start with, however when we got to the farm the sun came out.
On arrival we were greeted by Moira Davidson who, in her words, is the ‘Chief Hunter Gatherer and Girl Friday’. We were shown round the main part where the barrels were situated and of course we were given a sampler of the cider to try, most enjoyable. Paul Stephens, the owner, explained that the Cidery started back in 2000, he then gave us a quick overview of the cider making process. All very technical.
Paul took us over the road into the main big barn where we were greeted with the smell of a barbecue and more ciders to sample, plus the Sixth Form College three piece band were playing. Another local brewery Swan Brewery were exhibiting too, so a bit more sampling had to be undertaken of beer this time!
Once we had finished our cider and beer sampling we went back over to the shop and purchased twelve bottles of cider to take home
On our way back to the car we couldn’t resist a quick look at the cattle whereupon we were greeted by a very young calf who had been born that morning. So a fantastic time had by all and we would certainly highly recommend our guests to go out and visit Newton Court Cider
